That next bar tab or trip to the liquor store is going to cost you significantly more if the chuckleheads in Annapolis get their way. House Bill 832 would raise taxes on Beer by as much as 1189%. Oh and don’t fret wine and liquor connoisseurs they didn’t forget about you.

“Increasing the State tax rates for alcoholic beverages sold in Maryland from $1.50 to $10.03 per gallon for distilled spirits, from 40 cents to $2.96 per gallon for wine, and from 9 cents to $1.16 per gallon for beer; providing for the distribution of the additional revenue to special funds to be used only for the purpose of providing additional funding for specified health services; etc.”

Note: The wording on the bills main page says per gallon and the wording in the actual bill says per liter. That’s a pretty big difference since 1 gallon = 3.78541178 liters.
